[Qutecsound-users] Build error on arch (qml_resources.qrc)

esteband

Hey there,

When I try to build CSoundQt from the latest git on arch, I get an error stating that "qml_resources.qrc" cannot be found. I've searched my system high and low for it, but don't have it.

I've also searched the .pro and .pri files for any reference to it, but I'm stumped. Could you offer any pointers to get past this hurdle?

Thanks!

Steve

Sorry - this is on the qmake step. I should have mentioned that the only difference between the last time I installed successfully (on AV Linux) and now (on arch) is that this time, I couldn't use the 'qmake' command on its own. I had to specify 'qmake-qt4'. I guess this is since I also have qt5 installed.

Hi,

My mistake, forgot to commit the file. Should now work.

Cheers,
Andrés

Andres,

Yes, thank you - your commit did indeed get me past the qmake step.  Now, in the "make" step, the build fails.  Here's what I get:

Makefile:1116: recipe for target 'build/doubles/obj/qutecsound.o' failed
make: *** [build/doubles/obj/qutecsound.o] Error 1

I had a look at the makefile to see if it was an easy fix, but I really don't have a clue.

Strange... is there any other information about the error?

Right, sorry, support for Qt 4 was broken. Now fixed. Using Qt 5 is highly recommended.

Re: [Qutecsound-users] Build error on arch (qml_resources.qrc)

Cool! Using qmake (Qt5) did the trick.  You're the man!  Thanks so much for your lightning-fast responses.

Now, when I run it, though, the app doesn't show up in the qjackctl connections window.  In the QtCsound configuration dialog, jack is selectable, and I can even select individual outputs from my presonus firepod, but when I try to run a .csd, I get the following message in my console:

*** rtjack: error connecting input ports

It doesn't matter which output I select, I get the same message, and the app doesn't appear in qjackctl's connections window.

I wonder, is there an option I missed somewhere during the build process, or do you think I'm missing something related to jack?  BTW, I'm running jack2.

Sorry to keep bugging you...

-Steve

Re: [Qutecsound-users] Build error on arch (qml_resources.qrc)

joachim-3
did you select jack as "RT Audio Module" in csoundqt's configure panel?
having done this, put in adc:system:capture_ for input and
dac:system:playback_ for output. so no need to select manually in qjackctl.
hope this helps -

Re: [Qutecsound-users] Build error on arch (qml_resources.qrc)

Hi,

Glad it worked. It actually felt good that the problem was picked up so quickly. It means people are building CsoundQt :)

The Csound Jack module is very picky about number of channels (this has changed in Csound git, I think). You will need to make sure the number of channels in your csd matches the number of channels in your jack interface. Otherwise, try other modules like alsa or portaudio.

Cheers,
Andrés

did you select jack as "RT Audio Module" in csoundqt's configure panel?
having done this, put in adc:system:capture_ for input and
dac:system:playback_ for output. so no need to select manually in qjackctl.
hope this helps -

Hey Andres,

I'm glad you're not bugged.  I hate being a help vampire.

Indeed, I read on csound git that there were some bugfixes regarding rtjack.  So, I decided to remove the version of csound 6.0.2 that I had picked up from the arch user repository, and I installed 6.0.3 from git.  Csound compiled just fine (or so I assume - there were no errors during the build process).

After that, CsoundQt would no longer run. When started from a terminal, I got this:

error while loading shared libraries: libcsound64.so.6.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I checked, though, and that file definitely does exist on my machine.  The path to it is /usr/local/lib.

Doing some detective work, I opened up the qcs-unix.pro file.  In it, there is a reference to libcsound64.so.  In my /usr/local/lib directory, I have libcsound64.so, but it appears to be just a link to libcsound64.so.6.0.

I rebuilt CsoundQt from the very latest git, and still, I get the same error in the terminal.  Weird.  I also grepped the whole CsoundQt directory for any mention of libcsound64.so.6.0, and the only match I get is the binary file.  I don't know if my detective work is helpful or not, but I hope it at least points in the right direction.

:)

Steve

OK - I'm making progress on this.  I figured out the libcsound64.so.6.0 problem. It was easy.  I didn't have /usr/local/lib in my LIBRARY path.  Once I fixed that, CsoundQt loaded just fine.

Also, regarding jack, I made a discovery.  CsoundQt DOES appear in the qjackctl connectons window, but only while a .csd is actually running.  As soon as the score is finished, the entry disappears from the window.

hmmm...

Alright - I can now say I've got a working build of the latest Csound and CsoundQt on Arch Linux.

Joachim, your instructions about setting the input & output devices did the trick.  At first, I didn't realize I could type in my selection - I thoughtI had to select from the menu, so I just selected the closest choice.  After doing it your way, running the .csd makes entries appear in qjackctl, with all the connections set as expected.  The score plays just fine through my firepod.  The qjackctl connections disappear as soon as the score is finished.  That's surprising, but it's fine with me as long as I get sound.  Actually, it's really cool that I don't have to set them manually anymore like I did when I was running AVLinux.

Thanks guys for all the help.  I hope one day I'll be able to contribute some and not be such a leech.

Best,

-Steve
