Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

joachim-3
congrats, i think you are almost there ...

obviously the linker cannot find GL.  i have:
   /usr/include/GL
   /usr/include/GL/gl.h

you don't probably?

can you try to execute
   sudo ldconfig

and then try again?

if this does not help, can you search for GL and report what you found?

ciao -

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Jan Jacob Hofmann
Dear Joachim,

thank you so much.
I have these too at the same position as you:

/usr/include/GL
/usr/include/GL/gl.h

look:
janjacobhofmann@janjacobhofmann-ThinkPad-T430:~$ cd /usr/include/GL

janjacobhofmann@janjacobhofmann-ThinkPad-T430:/usr/include/GL$ ls
glext.h  gl.h  gl_mangle.h  glxext.h  glx.h  glx_mangle.h  internal

Shall I still run...

sudo ldconfig

...or would this break things, as gl.h is already at the right position
of the directory?

All the best,

Jan Jacob

hi -

running sudo ldconfig breaks nothing, it only tells your system to
register the new installed libraries.

perhaps when you try, it works.

hope so; keep us informed -

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Tarmo Johannes
In reply to this post by Jan Jacob Hofmann

Hi,

The error message was that linker could not find the library, that is probably libgl.so or something similar.

It is not likey but can it be that you have the development pacage installed (since headers are there) but not the library? Or the library is called somehow differently.

I am not by a computer but I suggest use your software manager and search for packages including gl to check what is installed, what not and if you can see the reason.

Or perpahs a simple google search for 'ubutnu libgl not found' or similar gives you a quick hint.

Sorry, I am not by the computer myself...

Anyway, if it is not a specific CsoundQt issue, Google might help you sometimes faster than this list  :)

Best!
Tarmo

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

joachim-3
you are right; i should not have looked for GL but for libGL.  on my
system, it is here:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so.1.2.0

so, jan jacob, perhaps you can look whether you have it at a similar
place, or not?

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Jan Jacob Hofmann
Dear Joachim, dear Tarmo,

again one step further. I found those libraries in a directory called "mesa"
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.0

as libGL.so was missing, I did install it into the same folder. Now it
looks like this:

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1.2.0

Then I compiled again and got no error message from Qt Creator. I did
not get a message at all, to be honest, but the bar indicating the
status went green. Maybe this was it? If yes -sorry for that
newbie-question - where would I find my programme and how could I start it?

All the best,

Jan Jacob

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

joachim-3
sounds good!  look into the folder where you have your csoundqt sources.
there is a "bin" folder, and inside you should find an executable,
called CsoundQt-d-cs6 or similar.  you can drag it into a terminal and
press enter to start, or ubuntu may have other options.

it is also possible to start the application from inside Qt Creator.
there is a green "run" button.

cheers -

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Jan Jacob Hofmann
IT WORKS!!!

Thank you both so much, Joachim and Tarmo. A small step for mankind but
a big step for me. Without your help I could have never done that.  Now
I guess I should add RTmidi, shouldn't I? Is it for Midi-support? do I
still need it even if I do not work with midi?

And in a more quiet moment I will go through the process again and look,
which hints would be helpful for newbies like me in the wiki...although
I see that it is always difficult to give specific hints what to install
from where (and how) because every computer is different, isn't it?

All the best,

Jan Jacob

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Tarmo Johannes
In reply to this post by joachim-3

Great, glad to hear!

I also suggest you to install CsoundQt to your system - easier to run as any other application, open csds etc.

Go to the folder, where CsoundQt was built, probably bin folder in the sources. You should see Makefile in that folder.
In terminal run
sudo make install

super, glad to hear!

yes it would be great if you add something; actually i must say even a
german version might be useful for many people.

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Jan Jacob Hofmann
Dear Joachim,

yes, I will "build" a german version. But maybe I should compile Rtmidi
first before I install CsoundQt via "make" like Tarmo suggested? Or
wouldn't I need Rtmidi, if I do not intend to work with midi? Is it just
for midi-support? I could not find information what it actually does.

All the best,

Jan Jacob

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Tarmo Johannes

Hi,

if you never use midi, you can leave RtMidi alone and build it when you need - now you are the master of your own CsoundQt build!

Otherwise It is very convenient when you use MIDI controllers or keyboards - connects them both to Csound and you can easily bind them also to widgets (Midi learn).

Re: [Qutecsound-users] How to get Csoundqt running on Ubuntu

Jan Jacob Hofmann
In reply to this post by Tarmo Johannes
Dear Tarmo,

just as a feedback: I now installed CsoundQT and everything is running
fine. However I got an error message in terminal during the
installation-process:

strip:/usr/share/applications/CsoundQt.desktop: Dateiformat nicht erkannt
