[Qutecsound-users] csoundqt midi issue

joachim-3
hi all -

i have tried some examples with midi (and an external usb keyboard).
while using csoundqt's own midi module, i usually get this behaviour:
- first time it crashes (and a segfault is reported in the terminal).
- the following runs it works -- i can start and stop several times
without problems.

this is on linux with csound and csoundqt from git, but seems to be the
same on osx with csound 6.03 (and the corresponding csoundqt).

does anyone else experience a similar behaviour?

best -

        joachim

Re: [Qutecsound-users] csoundqt midi issue

Hello,

Have exactly the same problem with KXstudio and linux Mint 14, csoundqt
8.0.3 + git and csound git.

+ Some time when csoundqt crashes I have to kill the process and start
again.

Have this problem since rtmidi is integrated in Csoundqt.

Have stopped using it for a while, waiting a more stable release, so
have not tried the last git.

Regards,
René

Hi,

I was not aware of this as I am not currently using MIDI... But I'll try to fix ASAP.

Cheers,
Andres

Hi,

I'm not experiencing this behavior at all... Can you tell me a specific csd file that fails, and some of your settings, to see if I can reproduce?

Cheers,
Andrés

Re: [Qutecsound-users] csoundqt midi issue

moi
Hi,

Y can test with Midi Tunning CsoundQt example

(csoundqt git 05 21 2014  with rtmidi 2.0.1 (but it was the same with previous rtmidi version)

See picture of system monitor,

In this picture have started and closed csoundqt 3 times, midi is not working at all since the second start.

For midi to work again, I have to kill the 3 lines, and start csoundqt again.

So when I close csoundqt I have to remember to kill the process in system monitor for the next start of csoundqt.

In the editor, Tab is not doing anything if "Tab key always indents" is off, so I can't puts tabs within a line

Hope this help :)
Regards

Re: [Qutecsound-users] csoundqt midi issue

hi andrés, hi rené -

the midi tunings example is very complex, so perhaps not the best csd to
try. i have experienced the crash-at-first-run with these examples in
Getting Started > Realtime Interaction:
MIDI Receiving Notes
MIDI Synth
MIDI Control Data
MIDI Assign Controllers

thanks, andrés, for having a look. my settings are: ubuntu studio 12.04,
RTMidi 2.01, CsoundQt and Csound from current git.

as i said, i experienced this on osx 10.6 as well with csound 6.03 and
csoundqt 0.82. not tested extensively there; i can do if it helps.

best -

Hi,

I've found some issues, but I don't think they solve the issue you describe. Could you run CsoundQt in the debugger and let me know where it hangs, or where it crashes?

Cheers,
Andrés

Hi,

I've pushed a fix which might address this problem. Can you pull and try it?

the midi tunings example is very complex, so perhaps not the best csd to
try. i have experienced the crash-at-first-run with these examples in
Getting Started > Realtime Interaction:
MIDI Receiving Notes
MIDI Synth
MIDI Control Data
MIDI Assign Controllers

thanks, andrés, for having a look. my settings are: ubuntu studio 12.04,
RTMidi 2.01, CsoundQt and Csound from current git.

as i said, i experienced this on osx 10.6 as well with csound 6.03 and
csoundqt 0.82. not tested extensively there; i can do if it helps.

best -

Re: [Qutecsound-users] csoundqt midi issue

joachim-3
hi andrés -

i upgraded to RTMidi 2.1.0, to be sure that this is not the reason,
pulled from git and built again. unfortunately it seems to be worse now.
when i start MIDI Synth from Examples>Getting Started>Realtim
Interaction, i get the messages:
MIDI message ignored.

after stopping csoundqt, the process stays as a zombie; i have to kill
it manually.

if there is a debug mode i can use, i am happy to do so.

ciao, all best -

        joachim

Re: [Qutecsound-users] csoundqt midi issue

Hi Joachim,

It's strange, it's behaving quite solid for me...

What you can do is run CsoundQt in the QtCreator debugger. Make sure you select debug run first in the target run panel, where there's a little picture of a computer that should say qcs on top and Release or debug in the bottom. Also make sure you select the same build flags for a debug build in the projects section, you probably have those set different for debug and release if you haven't been switching between one and the other. Then when you use CsoundQt and it crashes, it will show you the backtrace, which you can then right click on to copy and paste on an email, or if CsoundQt hangs, you can go to QtCreator and pause running, which will tell you what function it is paused in (that will tell me if there is a lock that needs releasing).

Cheers,
Andrés
